The Climbing Experience is Kent’s most exciting indoor climbing centre, offering facilities for all levels of experience from novice to expert. With a state-of-the-art bouldering facility, including a 30m competition wall, rock climbing, and 11 belayed top rope lines, plus training and instruction.
The Challenge
When Climbing Experience took over the premises, based in two large units in Maidstone’s Baltic Wharf Retail Park, they were faced with the prospect of converting the premises from commercial use with utility lighting to a forward thinking, energy efficient leisure facility.
Kew Home offer a Lighting Design Service in association with Ansell which incorporates a full site survey and recommendations designed for practicality, energy efficiency and cost saving.
The Solution
In the case of The Climbing Experience we specified 36W and 70W T8 fittings plus 250W THL Low Bays with LED lighting throughout the office and public areas switch on and off according to room occupancy and to change the lighting as necessary, whether dimming, brightening, accordingly.
The installation was completed on time and on budget, but most impressive has been the considerable saving the company has benefited from as a result.
Free Lighting Design Service
Kew Home’s Lighting Design Service assumes that the area will be lit in accordance with the relevant CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) codes, using a luminaire arrangement which considers the clients’ requirements and any commercial considerations.
Room reflectances, illuminance levels and the ambient temperature range (between 20°C and 30°C) are all designed to be in accordance with CIBSE guidelines. The luminaires Kew Home specify are supplied with lamps, which are high quality but standard issue lamps for the product.
LED bulbs use more than 75% less energy than incandescent lighting. At low power levels, the difference is even larger. Bright LED flood lamps use only 11 to 12 watts while creating a light output comparable to a 50-watt incandescent bulb.
The Climbing Experience
Climbing isn’t just great for your physical fitness; it’s also a fantastic mental workout. Just as it challenges your body to become stronger and more flexible, it also stimulates your brain and focuses your mind and spirit, making it the ideal sport for people wanting to de-stress and increase mindfulness.
The bouldering facility at The Climbing Experience also features a cave, plenty of slabs and two standalone boulders, one of which is a top-out and the other an arch. There are new routes set every week, so there is always something to test their customers, whether they are new to bouldering or an experienced climber.
